Parent Reading
·      When: Every Morning
·      Time: from 8:50 until the bell rings
·      Why: Helps students practice read to someone.
·      Please come in and read with your child.

Books for Home
·      Start: Friday Week 3
·      A detailed note will come home in your child’s home reading pouch.

Readers Workshop
·      What do the students do?
o   Read to Self
o   Read with Someone
o   Listen to Reading
o   Reading Strategies
·      What do the teachers do?
o   reading with students
o   conferencing with students
o   creating reading goals with the students

Word Work – Letters and Sounds
·      Daily activities based on learning letter and sound patterns
·      Similar to what was done in year 1 and Kindergarten

Work on Writing
·      Focus on handwriting skills (letter formation - Term 1), sentence structure, punctuation (full stops, capital letters and exclamation marks), variety of writing styles (such as narrative, retells and descriptions) and linking in with recognition of letters and sounds. 
·      Writing is linked to books read in the class, Inquiry as well as writing seeds

Maths
·      Students will be split into year 1 and year 2 groups.
·      Year 1 will be working with Miss Hayes, Ms Taylor, Mrs Devlin, Ms Lee.
·      Year 2 will be working with Miss Sinclair, Mrs Roarty, Mrs Whitney, Miss Martin.
·      Learning will be differentiated within the groups to cater for students’ needs.

Take Home Maths Games
·      Sent out and returned on a Friday
·      Start: Friday Week 5

PE and Health
·      Regular sessions through the week to ensure a promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
·      Students need to have a drink bottle, appropriate footwear and a hat.

Inquiry
·      Throughout the semester students will participate in two Science inquiries, as well as a History and a Geography inquiry.
·      In the first inquiry we will be looking at natural, managed and constructed features of places. We will look at changes that occur to objects as well as creating maps labelling the different features.

KidsMatter – Social Emotional Learning
·      Fraser Primary has a strong focus on developing students Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
·      We link our teaching of SEL with current happenings in the classroom and/or on the playground to ensure this is relevant to the student’s needs.
·      In Term 1 we are beginning with Self Awareness.

Junior Learning Community Blog
·      Every week photos, updates and information about what’s going on in the classrooms.
·      We love reading your comments on the different posts.
·      Also the Frequently Asked Questions link provides all the information provided during the Parent/Carer Information Session in Term 1 Week 2 about how the Junior Learning Community works.

Wednesday Rotations
·      Students will participate in our specialist classes of Japanese, Music, Library, Technology, Health and PE.

Peg Chart
·      During the day students move up and down their peg based on effort, behaviour and displaying our SCARF values.
·      Each day we all start on Ready to Learn.

Reminders
·      Wednesday - library bag, bank book
·      Students are encouraged to leave toys at home and not bring them to school.
·      As many students have wobbly teeth we encourage apples to be cut up.
